Smarts named UK PR Agency To Watch

A really exciting way to kick off 2023 – our brilliant PR agency Smarts has been named by industry bible PR Week as one of its twelve agencies to watch this year!

Belfast-headquartered Smarts has been among the UK’s fastest-growing consumer comms agencies in the past few years, and a well-known face joined its ranks in 2022. Greg Jones, ex-MHP Mischief managing director, became Smarts’ first European chief executive, based in the London office and responsible for growing the business in the UK and mainland Europe.

Global chief executive Pippa Arlow described the appointment as a “huge milestone” in the history of Smarts, which counts drinks giant Diageo among its biggest clients. UK revenue grew 51 per cent in 2021 to £11.6m, with 119 staff at the year’s end, according to the most recent data from the PRWeek UK Top 150 Consultancies table.

As one of the country’s biggest consumer shops, Smarts will be an interesting test of how consumer comms will be impacted by the economic downturn as 2023 progresses.

2023 also marks two years since the agency, part of holding company MSQ, opened a New York office. Given the continued lure of the US city for UK agencies, the performance of the State-side operation will also be of interest.
