MSQ becomes a Carbon Negative business

After months of hard work from a lot of brilliant people around the group, we’re delighted to announce that, as of today, MSQ is a Carbon Negative business.

This means that the entire group, which comprises of 785 people across 12 international offices, offsets more CO2 than we generate. We believe that we’re one of the first international marketing groups of our size to achieve such a goal.

We first announced our intention to become a Carbon Negative business back in September, following our acquisition of Be Heard Partnership. We had set an initial target of March 2021, but have been able to accelerate that thanks to a passionate and committed team, led by MMT Digital’s co-founder James Cannings.

James ran a three-month intensive course, conducted in association with BIMA, where representatives from each MSQ agency modelled their team’s CO2 footprint and identified and initiated ways to offset at the base CO2 level.

MSQ will now continue to reduce our carbon emissions further through a series of initiatives instigated by a global Carbon Negative Council, sharing best practice and providing staff with innovative ways to help them offset their own carbon footprint too.

We’ve also committed to work with other businesses to help them offset their own carbon emissions, providing existing clients with quarterly carbon impact statements and ensuring carbon emissions are identified and offset ahead of any new project.

Kate Howe, Executive Director of MSQ, says: “We’re really proud to become one of the first marketing groups of our size to become Net Carbon Negative. We know it’s something that’s important to our staff, our clients and, of course the future of our planet. Being carbon neutral is not enough – we need to do more. That’s why we’re making sure that this is just the beginning – our team are now fully trained in understanding how to calculate and reduce carbon emissions and we look forward to working with clients to help them on the journey too.”

As well as announcing Carbon Negative status, this week we’ve also launched a dedicated sustainability offering for NGOs and commercial businesses. Find out more about MSQ Sustain here.
